What you will learn
Learning Tibetan involves developing skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. The Tibetan language has two main registers: Colloquial Tibetan and Classical Tibetan.
We usually begin with Colloquial Tibetan, which helps you speak and communicate in everyday contexts. You’ll learn the alphabet, the eight grammatical cases, basic sentence structure, and correct pronunciation—all the tools you need to start expressing yourself clearly.
As your foundation grows, we can explore Classical Tibetan, the language of traditional texts. Classical Tibetan reveals the deeper meanings behind words and concepts that reflect the Buddhist worldview. It gives you the ability to read and understand scriptures, liturgies, and other profound writings of Tibetan Buddhism.
